{"id":21,"date":"2018-08-28T07:38:12","date_gmt":"2018-08-28T07:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.demokratiebewegung.li\/en\/?p=21"},"modified":"2022-02-23T13:40:27","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T13:40:27","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.demokratiebewegung.li\/en\/blog\/constitution-2003\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"parent-fieldname-description\" class=\"documentDescription\">The history of the discussion about the Liechtenstein constitution between 1992 and 2006<\/div>\n<div id=\"content-core\">\n<div id=\"parent-fieldname-text\" class=\"plain\">\n<p class=\" \"><strong>1992<\/strong> The interpretation of single terms within the constitution leads to the first conflict between the Prince and the government.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>1993 <\/strong>The Prince calls for renewal of the constitution.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>1994 <\/strong>The first constitutional proposals by the Prince are met with rejection.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>1995 <\/strong>The Prince banned the critic Dr. Herbert Wille from any political position or as judical position.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>1996 <\/strong>The parliamentary constitutional commission created a proposal.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>1997 <\/strong>The Prince wants to enforce his constitutional proposal in opposition to that of the constitutional commission.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>1998 <\/strong>The Prince rejects the constitutional proposal made by the parliamentary constitutional commission.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>1999 <\/strong>The Prince presents his own constitutional proposal against the proposal made by the constitutional commission.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>2000 <\/strong>The Prince postpones the discussion over a new constitution due to major divergences of opinion.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>2001 <\/strong>The Prince and the newly elected government present a &#8216;new&#8217; constitutional proposal.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>2002 <\/strong>The constitutional proposal made by the Prince was not approved by the parliament. The Prince launched a constitutional referendum. More than 200 citizens also launched a constitutional referendum.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>2003 <\/strong>After an intensive and bitter campaign the constitutional proposal made by the Prince was accepted by 64.1% of the citizens.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>2004 <\/strong>The European Council launched a dialogue with Liechtenstein over its political practise under the new constitution. The democratic movements were able to force Liechtenstein to be allowed in the dialogue.<\/p>\n<p class=\" \"><strong>2005 <\/strong>The dialog meetings with the european council took place.
